Throughout his career, Paul has focused on ensuring that international development and climate initiatives respect the rights of indigenous communities and adhere to sustainable practices. He has emphasised the importance of rights-respecting and sustainable supply chains, safe and fair labor conditions, environmental conservation, and sustainability. Additionally, he advocates for thorough due diligence and risk analysis in partnerships, particularly with the private sector and high-risk enterprises such as extractive industries, oil and gas, monocultures, and heavy industry, to protect the reputation of public international organisations.
